It has become a popular bumper-sticker-sentiment: “Out of a job yet? Keep buying foreign,” implying that the way to support American manufacturing, particularly in the auto sector, is dependent on buying cars from American car producers like Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and General Motors Company (NYSE: GM).
However, USA Today reported when it comes to putting dollars to work supporting American jobs, it’s better to go with Toyota Motor Corp (ADR) (NYSE: TM)'s Camry than a Ford F-150. In an annual survey performed by Cars.com, the top five most popular cars assembled in the United States are all from Toyota or Honda Motor Co Ltd (ADR) (NYSE: HMC).

The survey required 75 percent of content going into the production of the vehicle be domestically produced, along with requirements for assembly location. In sixth through eighth place are GM vehicles produced in Lansing, Michigan. As the nation’s best-selling cars, Toyota and Honda employ the most Americans. By building vehicles where they sell them the most, companies protect themselves from currency fluctuations.
