One would believe that forgetting one’s child is one of the biggest no-no’s in parenting. However, who hasn't been left behind in a supermarket or mall?

Nonetheless, being left alone in a supermarket hasn't proven as lethal as being left behind in a locked car. Since 1998, 37 children have died trapped inside hot cars each year, on average, NoHeatStroke.org said. The vast majority of these kids were 4 years old or younger.

Now, General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) has come up with a solution: a “Look in Rear Seat” reminder. The company included a new feature on the 2017 GMC Acadia; Similar to the “Fasten Seatbelt” reminder, a warning tone will sound, accompanied by a speedometer reminder to "Look In Rear Seat" when the driver is leaving the car.

Tricia Morrow, GM's global safety strategy engineer said all new Acadias would include the feature, explaining that people forget things – and not just children- in their back seats very often.

The idea is to introduce the feature on other four-door GM cars in the future, Morrow added.
