Poland's army is ramping up a recruiting program and hopes to add 35,000 new soldiers to guard its border with Russia.

Tension between Russia and eastern European nations are showing no signs of easing. According to the BBC, Poland's desire for a larger and stronger army is aimed at countering "hybrid" warfare that resulted in parts of Ukraine breaking away and pledging loyalty to the Moscow government.

Meanwhile, NATO allies will help reinforce Poland with 4,000 troops being sent to the country and several neighboring Baltic states including Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The move will also act as an additional line of defense against Russia's Iskander-M nuclear capable missiles that are located in Kaliningrad which is located between Poland and the Baltic states.

Russia has also said it will send 3 new military divisions to its western and southern borders, according to The Moscow Times. A source close to the Russian publication attributed the decision as the country's "response to NATO's increasing activity near our borders."
