Stocks tumbled on Friday, driven by disappointing earnings in the tech and healthcare sectors. The S&P 500 and Dow managed to post some gains for the month of April; the Nasdaq, on the other hand, lost almost 2 percent of its value. Oil fell slightly as well, but still ended the month very strongly.

The S&P 500 Index delivered a 0.51 percent decline, with Stericycle Inc (NASDAQ: SRCL), Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ: STX) and Western Digital Corp (NASDAQ: WDC) having posted the largest decays.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.32 percent. Among the biggest decliners were Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT) and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC).

The Nasdaq 100 Index slipped 0.62 percent, partly driven by losses at Gilead Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: GILD) and Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU).

A few stocks in these indexes posted large gains on Friday. Among them, investors can count Monster Beverage Corporation (NASDAQ: MNST). Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Freeport-McMoRan Inc (NYSE: FCX).

After-Hours Movers

After the market closed on Friday, shares of:

  • Tallgrass Energy Partners LP (NYSE: TEP) fell 6.33 percent, giving up most of the gains (8.19 percent) seen during the day.
  • Enersis Chile SA – ADR (NYSE:ENIC) lost 5.23 percent, in a move that also seemed like a correction of the day’s 4.26 percent hike.
  • EV Energy Partners, L.P. (NASDAQ: EVEP) tumbled 4.42 percent, continuing with the 2.65 percent decline witnessed over the regular trading session.
  • Embraer SA (ADR) (NYSE: ERJ) rose 1.99 percent, recuperating some of the ground lost (4.74 percent) during Friday trading.
  • IAMGOLD Corp (USA) (NYSE: IAG) continued with their 6.92 percent Friday rally, posting a 1.76 percent gain in after-hours.
  • Hawaiian Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: HA) surged 1.38 percent, in what looked like a correction of the day’s 3.27 percent decline.
  • Apollo Education Group Inc (NASDAQ: APOL) returned 1.28 percent, adding to the day’s 2.9 percent rise.
