Shares of Sonic Corporation (NASDAQ: SONC) were trading up 2.9 percent on Tuesday’s after-hours session, following the announcement of the company’s first quarter –fiscal 2016- financial results. The U.S.-based small cap drive-in restaurants operator and franchisor reported earnings of $0.24 per share on revenue of $145.8 million, pretty much in line with the Street’s consensus estimate of $0.24 per share and $145.02 million.

Another big gainer of the afternoon was EP Energy Corp (NYSE: EPE). The small cap independent oil and gas exploration and production company was up more than 4 percent since the bell rang, recuperating the ground lost during the day. The shares had tumbled 3.97 percent during the regular trading session after analysts at Citigroup trimmed their price target on the stock from $6.00 to $5.50.

Probably the biggest gainer of Tuesday’s after-hours trading session was Conatus Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: CNAT), which was up more than 18 percent after announcing that “the three-month, double-blind, placebo-controlled stage of the company’s multicenter Phase 2 Liver Cirrhosis clinical trial showed a statistically significant reduction in caspase-cleaved cytokeratin 18 (cCK18) vs. placebo (p=0.04) in the overall patient population when adjusted for differences between treatment and placebo groups in baseline Model for End-stage Liver Disease (MELD) score and disease etiology as specified in the trial statistical analysis plan,” (Globe Newswire).

On the other hand, some stocks falling on Tuesday afternoon were:

  • SAGE Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: SAGE), down more than 4.4 percent on the announcement of a proposed public offering of common stock.
  • Cempra Inc (NASDAQ: CEMP), down almost 6 percent on the announcement of proposed public offering of $175 million of common stock.
  • Pioneer Natural Resources (NYSE: PXD), down 3.3 percent on the announcement of a public offering of 10.5 million shares of its common stock and higher than expected production of crude oil and natural gas for the fourth quarter.
