Advanced Software Products Group (ASPG, Inc.) is pleased to announce the release of CIM 1.8.0. This new release provides optimized performance, backup, and recovery of ICF catalogs via a secure, efficient management solution. Catalog Information Manager, known as CIM, is an ISPF-panel driven program designed for all ICF catalog components to be recovered quickly and efficiently without any loss of data.

Data is an organization's most valuable resource. For organizations utilizing a z/OS environment, proper management of data includes handling integrated catalog facility (ICF) catalogs. While ICF catalogs are an asset, they can also be a weakness if they fail as crucial data cannot be accessed. CIM was designed with this in mind, created to easily manage an organization's catalogs in a secure manner, providing complete catalog backup while reducing an organization's overhead costs.

Updates to CIM 1.8.0 feature additions to the tool's most popular features. These include the ability to EXAMINE data/index test with no reserve to ensure data integrity. The option to remove catname reorg restriction has been added, aiding further flexibility within the tool. Additionally, functionality to allow STC to run as STC JOB aids in catalog reorganization. Enhancements to the tool's data security have been added with an enhanced repro check authorization. Finally, an increased CI size to 8192 also adds further functionality to CIM 1.8.0.

ICF catalogs are a common concern in every z/OS production environment. A damaged or inaccessible catalog can quickly interrupt production or bring it to a complete stop. Without intact and accessible ICF catalogs, almost no data is available to your users. Valuable online time may be lost; SLA's may not be met, and extensive manual efforts for the recovery of the catalogs may have to be performed.

CIM alleviates these pain-points by providing complete catalog backup. The failure or loss of an ICF catalog could cause a significant loss, causing thousands of datasets to become unavailable. CIM guarantees a complete catalog recovery should a failure occur.
