Kemper Corporation (NYSE:KMPR) announced today that its president and CEO Joseph P. Lacher, Jr. has been elected to serve as chair of the JDRF International Board of Directors (IBOD). JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.

"It's an honor and a privilege to lead the JDRF International Board of Directors and I look forward to continuing the great work that's been done to find cures for T1D," Lacher said. "JDRF is the world's largest nonprofit funder of T1D research, and this research has made huge impacts for T1D and anyone living with diabetes. I am hopeful for the entire diabetes community that our team will make strong advances in the funding and support of this work so there can be a world without T1D."

Lacher is currently a member of the JDRF International Board of Directors and an At-Large Executive Committee Member for the JDRF Illinois chapter. He replaces current chair Ellen Leake and will be joined by current IBOD member Lisa Wallack as Vice Chair, as they begin their two-year terms on July 1, 2020.

"Kemper proudly supports the communities where we live and work and JDRF is doing great work in research and advocacy in communities worldwide," said Robert J. Joyce, Chairman of Kemper's Board of Directors. "The Kemper board is proud and extremely supportive of Joe in this role, and is confident that his strong leadership, broad skillset, and depth of knowledge will be a great benefit to JDRF."
