Alaska Communications (NASDAQ:ALSK) is taking a leadership role in delivering high-speed, reliable broadband to its Alaska customers using Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). FWA technology advancements provide Alaska Communications a capital-efficient approach to improve its competitive positioning for residential and small business customers.

"FWA enables us to deliver high-quality service to Alaska consumers and small businesses in a capital and cost-efficient manner, as we continue to expand the reach and density of our fiber network to support our business and serve enterprise and carrier customers," said Randy Ritter, Alaska Communications' senior vice president, shared services.
As an important validation of FWA deployment, Alaska Communications has reached a milestone in its deployment of high-speed broadband service to underserved areas of Alaska under the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Connect America Fund Phase II (CAF-II). Alaska Communications expects to cover approximately 6,000 households by the end of 2018 covering both CAF II eligible and other locations in the respective communities.

Ritter shared an update on Alaska Communications' FWA deployment, leveraging RADWIN's FWA solutions, with the telecommunications community at two recent industry events, Wispapalooza and the Telecom Infra Project's TIP Summit.
At those events both companies also announced a mmWave mesh technology trial leveraging Facebook's Terragraph technologies that will bring the latest technology to Alaska, allowing faster, more cost-effective deployments in select markets and giving customers higher speeds at competitive rates.
