Apple's First TV will Debut by March, Report Claims

Those who are excited for Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) debut television might not have to wait long for its initial debut.

The crazy rumor mill of future technology is bringing us chatter that Apple suppliers are preparing for a Q1 2012 release.

The chatter stems from a DigiTimes report (via AppleInsider), which claims that Apple will release 32- and 37-inch models.

This is a bit different from the mountains of other reports and expectations, which suggest that the Apple TV sets will go well beyond the 40-inch range.

There have also been rumors indicating that Apple could first bring its TV technology to the next line of iMacs, allowing users to watch television right from their Macs. (Don't we already have that via Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) and Hulu?)

ACTION ITEMS:

Bullish:

If Apple can release a TV sooner than anticipated:

  • Best Buy (NYSE: BBY), which relies heavily on TV sales, could see a boost.
  • Apple Stores will receive increased traffic ahead of the iPhone 5, iPad 3 and other major product launches scheduled for 2012.
Bearish:

Unfortunately for other TV manufacturers, the sooner Apple releases its first TV, the sooner that:

  • Panasonic (NYSE: PC) will begin to lose control of a market it once led.
  • Sony's (NYSE: SNE) beautiful screens might not be able to compare to whatever Apple concocts (select models exclude).
