GoPro Struggling To Generate Social Media Traction For Its New Products

GoPro Inc GPRO has had a rough go of it so far in 2016. The latest data from TickerTags suggest that things may be getting even worse.

TickerTags monitors social media sites to identify trends by searching for words and phrases that appear together in social media content, such as tweets.

Organic mentions of GoPro on Twitter are down 22 percent in the first half of 2016 compared to the same period last year. In addition, the number of tweets containing “hero” + “GoPro” and “Hero4” are down 45 percent and 47 percent, respectively, so far in 2016.

GoPro is set to release its Omni VR recording rig on August 17 and its Hero5 camera and Karma drone in time for the holiday season. Unfortunately, none of these products seem to be gaining much social media traction in anticipation of their releases.

GoPro’s stock is also struggling to gain any kind of traction, down 36.8 percent year-to-date. The company is set to release Q2 earnings on July 27, and the market has low expectations for the quarter. Consensus EPS estimates for GoPro are -$0.57 on revenue of $212.58 million. Both numbers are well short of Q2 2015’s EPS of $0.35 and revenue of $400.34 million.
