Pro Football Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson and UnitedHealthcare unveiled new playground equipment and distributed 200 backpacks full of healthy food to students at Horace Mann Elementary School in Long Beach. A $22,000 grant from UnitedHealthcare to Tomlinson's Touching Lives Foundation and Blessings in a Backpack funded the playground equipment and a weekly backpack distribution of food to 100 students who may otherwise have little or no healthy food to eat on weekends during the school year (Photo: Jamie Rector).
Tomlinson of the Los Angeles Chargers was joined by Donna McKeehan-Marr, principal of Horace Mann Elementary School, and Meghan Newkirk of UnitedHealthcare of California at a school assembly this morning.
A $22,000 grant from UnitedHealthcare to Horace Mann Elementary and Blessings in a Backpack funded the playground equipment and a weekly backpack distribution of healthy food to 100 students who may otherwise have little or no healthy food to eat on weekends during the school year.
