In a recent report from the American Tort Reform Foundation, California came in second across the country for having a problematic litigation climate. California has been on the list for three of the past five years, coming in second place the majority of the time behind only New York.

According to the President of the American Tort Reform Foundation, prosecutors, plaintiff friendly judges and lawmakers expand civil liability and invite approximately 1 million new lawsuits being filed there every single year.

In addition, since 2010, California has approved an average of 827 new laws every single year. While these laws may help to fix problems across California, they can also present significant issues as it relates to lawsuits. This has led to a busy court system and highlights the importance of using proper court reporters.

Court reporters are often the silent workers in legal proceedings, making sure to capture information accurately as it happens so it can be reviewed later. Many court reporters, including Leroy, have adapted their business to make use of industry-leading technology. In the past, lawyers may have had to drive many hours for a deposition, but real time reporting accessible from conference rooms and across web software now makes it easier than ever to complete a deposition without the added hassle of travel. This gives attorneys the opportunity to see versions of the proceedings promptly.

Given the surge in lawsuits and legal proceedings in California in particular, the hours saved by being able to leverage technology can help to process these cases more quickly while still remaining focused on accuracy, the hallmark of experienced court reporters. Attorneys can now schedule more depositions across a given day or week without having to travel or giving up the quality afforded by a court reporter.

Lori Leroy of Accuracy-Plus Reporting has seen an uptick in business as a result of the litigious climate. Her court reporting services are in high demand as more attorneys are in need of accurate and detail oriented court reporters to assist with deposition materials. Leroy has been involved in providing court reporting services across the Sacramento area including complete deposition facilitating technical support services, complimentary conference rooms, a 24/7 message center, mobile transcript upload capability, daily copy and expedited services and real time reporting.
