According to a report by USA Today, Google's Project Fi could prove to be a "major shakeup" in the wireless segment, but it won't come anytime soon.
Project Fi was launched more than a year ago and offers mobile users a contract-free $20 per month offering of unlimited domestic calls and texts, $10 per gigabyte of data and additional data is charged at a prorated level while unused data is given as a credit on the next month's bill.
USA noted that as of Tuesday, Fi can now be used in more than 135 countries.
While all of this sounds tempting and a true disruptive force in the mobile sector, the question many are asking is what is taking the company so long to release the service to the masses.
Fi only works on Google's Nexus 5X, 6 and 6P headsets, while iPhone and Galaxy devices are incompatible. Meanwhile, Google won't acknowledge how many subscribers it has.
The USA Today article concluded in its report that if Google's ultimate endgame is to take over the wireless sector it is indeed "coming awfully slowly."
