The Cutline that the new site could be similar to Al Jazeera‘s Transparency Unit, which encrypts file submissions from anonymous leakers.Says Keller, “A small group from computer-assisted reporting and interactive news, with advice from the investigative unit and the legal department, has been discussing options for creating a kind of EZ Pass lane for leakers.”This could prove to be quite the lucrative venture for the New York Times, which has been searching for new and additional forms of revenue. If this site comes to fruition, expect the News Corp. (NASDAQ: NWSA) family of publications, TV networks and websites to follow suit.
