As it turns out all the MTV Movie Awards needed to succeed was the right combination of hosts. Sunday's 25th anniversary of the quirky pop culture staple utilized its A-list hosts Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart to great results. With 3.5 million viewers checking out the telecast, that's a 54% jump from year to year when it reached 2.3 million viewers. This being MTV, the 18-49 demo doesn't really matter as much with the 12-34 range more appealing to advertisers. In that measure the numbers were also up with a 1.97 rating which is 22% jump year-to-year. Viacom (NYSE: VIA) synergy also played a role as the show was simulcast across nine of the media giant's networks, which was five more than in past years. Star power was a big driver of the boost with A-listers including Chris Pratt, Melissa McCarthy and Charlize Theron in attendance. In addition Warner Bros. and Marvel both debuted new trailers from their highly anticipated summer films "Suicide Squad" and "Captain America: Civil War."
