, which flopped when it was released last year."Their phones have been a complete failure," said Moorhead. "I expect Amazon to lose money and unless Amazon can start showing traction in phones and video and music on demand, I don't see a rosy future."

'Off Quarter'

Another analyst said this was an "off quarter" for the whole retail space. "Therefore it looks like it's going to be an off quarter for Amazon," the analyst, who asked not to be quoted by name, told Benzinga. "It looks like their current subscribers are chugging along. They haven't done a lot of new deals to acquire content outside of originals. We'll have to see. It's an off quarter for retail, therefore it should be an off quarter for Amazon."

Sean Udall, CIO of Quantum Trading Strategies and author of The TechStrat Report, told Benzinga that Prime Day (which will impact the September quarter) was a "brilliant move by Amazon.""My very first thought [was that] this is a great thing for Amazon to do to blow out a bunch of inventory they're probably sitting on," said Udall.
