The Dow rose 0.12 percent to 18,070.91, while the NASDAQ composite index surged 0.80 percent to 5,139.94. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.52 percent to 2,118.42.The worst performing industries in the market today are: Semiconductor - Integrated Circuits:

This industry declined 1.2 percent by 11:00 am with Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co. Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE: TSM) moving down 2.3 percent. TSMC reported Q2 earnings of NT$3.06 per share on revenue of NT$205.4 trillion. It projects Q3 revenue of NT$207 billion to NT210 billion. Silver: The industry dropped 0.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Mines Management, Inc.

(NYSE: MGN), which declined 2.5 percent. Silver futures fell 0.02 percent to $15.05 an ounce. Appliances: This industry tumbled 0.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE: WHR), which fell 1.1 percent. Whirlpool is expected to report Q2 results on July 22, 2015. Synthetics: This industry fell 0.6 percent by 11:00 am ET. Axiall Corp (NYSE: AXLL) shares dropped 2.1 percent in today's trading. Axiall shares have declined 26.75 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has surged 7.62 percent in the same period.
