Microsoft and Sony also revealed their own virtual reality experiences, called the HoloLens and Morpheus respectively, though neither is ready for sale just yet.

While the HoloLens allows users to see holograms within their own environment, Morpheus provides a fully immersive virtual reality experience.

Gaming Platforms Could Have The Edge

CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House told The Wall Street Journal that he sees gaming consoles like the PlayStation 4 having the upper hand in the virtual reality space.

Although Oculus is compatible with Windows 10, House said the company will run into problems making the headset compatible with users running different versions on different PCs. For Morpheus, the experience only has to be designed around the PlayStation platform, allowing for smoother game play and easier integration for consumers.

While users may have to learn an entirely new system in order to play a game using an Oculus headset, Morpheus will allow them to play using a console they already own and are familiar with.
