According to leaked photos acquired by Droid Life, Google Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL)'s Nest Lab is preparing to launch a wireless home security camera to its range of "Internet of Things" (IoT) lineup.Google acquired Nest Lab for $3.2 billion last year. The company manufactures and develops a "learning thermostat" and extended Google's reach into the home market. At its developer conference last month Google said that it is positioning itself to be a leader in the "smart home" market.Droid Life speculated that Nest and Google have been testing the new camera for months. The publication further noted that the camera looks similar to a Dropcam, which makes sense, as Nest owns Dropcam."The new unit appears to have been slimmed down quite substantially to a much more modern and sleek body that should fit quite nicely on a shelf," Droid Life stated. "Dropcams were never the most beautiful piece of technology in your house, but the Nest Cam certainly changes that some."On a related note, the Nest app is set to receive a major overhaul that integrates Dropcam and other Net products. The new app has the ability to show a user the camera and their status, in addition to controlling the Nest Thermostat and Protects.Naturally, Google will face stiff competition in the new market from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) whose Homekit is still in the early stages. Apple has certified four devices last week that will work with the platform, but only two of them are actually available now. Moreover, Forbes. reported that Apple has "faced some challenges" around home automation which may give Google the advantage for the time being.
