Mark Wallace Appointed Engineering Senior Vice President, Mitch Nichols Announces Retirement

ATLANTA, May 12, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UPS ® (NYSE: UPS)today announced Mark Wallace, age 52, is appointed senior vicepresident of engineering, replacing Mitch Nichols, age 59, who haselected to retire after 28 years with the company.  In his newassignment, Wallace will lead the company's global engineering andsustainability activities.  Wallace joins the UPS ManagementCommittee, a group of the most senior executives responsible forday-to-day management of the company.

Mark Wallace biography

Wallace was previously president of UPS Supply ChainSolutions.  In this role he led the company's global contractlogistics operations which serve customers in numerous industrysegments with optimized supply chain planning, light assembly,warehousing and distribution services.

Before taking over UPS Supply Chain Solutions, Wallace served asvice president for Industrial Engineering, since 2012.  Hisbroad responsibilities included oversight of industrial engineeringfor capacity planning, package and hub operations, methods and workmeasurement, technology support and daily network and contingencyplanning. Prior to this position, he directed all internationalindustrial engineering to support UPS's non-U.S. operations andnetwork planning.

Wallace began his UPS career in 1986 as an engineeringspecialist and was assigned as a driver in Arizona. He has advancedthrough various engineering and operations leadership positions inthe West, Southwest and North Central parts of the U.S., includingplanning and IE coordination for UPS's largest ground processinghub outside Chicago and nationwide deployment of new technologysystems for dispatch planning and pre-load simplification.

A Minnesota native, Wallace holds a bachelor's degree inindustrial engineering from Arizona State University, in Tempe,Arizona. 

Mitch Nichols biography

Before his current assignment as senior vice president ofengineering and transportation, Nichols served as president of UPSAirlines, where he oversaw the operation of UPS Airlines includingWorldport, the company's state-of-the-art package processingfacility and all-points international hub in Louisville,Kentucky.  Under his leadership, UPS Airlines was named CargoAirline of the Year in 2009 by Air Transport World.  Nicholsalso served in a variety of assignments in Information Services,Strategic Operations Planning, Quality Assurance and package, andUPS's hub-and-feeder operations.  A native of Castro Valley,Calif., he joined UPS in 1987 when the company acquired II MorrowInc., a communications and navigation technology company.

He previously taught at Oregon State University's School ofEngineering and worked in the private sector in manufacturingengineering.

Nichols holds a bachelor's degree in industrial arts fromCalifornia State University, Chico, and a master's degree inindustrial education from Oregon StateUniversity.
