Tesla Has Big Plans For The Shanghai Motor Show

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) will join dozens of exhibitors at the Shanghai Motor Show this week in a first for the Palo Alto, California-based company.

Tesla, still a bit bruised from failing to meet sales expectations in China late last year, plans to show its Model S 85, Model S 85D, and Model S P85D at the week-long event opening Wednesday at the National Exhibition and Convention Center.

Tesla last month reportedly cut 30 percent of its work force in China, but the company's Chief Executive Elon Musk has said recently that he expects to launch production of Tesla automobiles in China within three years.

China, in the past six years, has become the world's largest market for auto sales, while annual production there exceeds the combined output of the U.S. and Japan.
