Just one month after launching in Australia, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) saw its network traffic explode from 3 percent of iiNet, Australia's second-largest DSL provider, to 25 percent, according to a report in Mashable. Since Netflix offers its customers a four-week free trial, it is yet to be seen how much this activity will translate into paying customers.

iiNet is one of two Australian Internet providers that offer unmetered streaming of Netflix programming. In the U.S., Netflix accounts for roughly a third of all Internet traffic.

In Europe, Internet providers are also vying for Netflix's business. Swedish provider Com Hem Group and Deutsche Telekom's Austrian unit have both offered free months in order to win new customers.

Investors were encouraged by growth abroad following the company's earnings report last week. The stock has since gained more than 20 percent, bringing its year-to-date gains to 68 percent.

In that report, the company said that it would continue to use U.S. profits to fuel international growth. As such, many analysts, including those at Oppenheimer, have reduced the company's 2016 EPS estimates.
