(OTC: CIOIF) reported a gain in its profit in the year to December 31.Carillion's pretax profit for the year climbed 29% y/y to 142.6 million pounds ($218.9 million). Underlying profit before tax slipped 1% to £172.9 million, while underlying EPS dropped 3% to 33.7 pence. Underlying profit from operations gained 1% to £216.9 million.Its revenue came in flat at GBP4.1 billion.The company's board recommended a dividend of 17.75 pence for the full year, versus 17.50 pence in 2013.Chairman Philip Green said, "In 2014, our markets remained challenging and we continued to be very selective in choosing the contracts for which we bid in order to maintain margin discipline, which continues to be a key element of our strategy. Looking forward, we expect the steady improvement in our markets that began in 2014 to continue in 2015, subject to a sustained macro-economic recovery."
