Receptos Inc. (NASDAQ: RCPT) reported a wider loss for the fourth quarter on Tuesday.The San Diego, California-based company posted a quarterly loss of $38.2 million, or $1.32 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $15.2 million, or $0.86 per share. The latest quarter net loss included $3.4 million in stock-based compensation expense, versus $1.3 million in the year-ago quarter. Analysts were expecting the company to post a loss of $1.19 per share.Its total revenue came in at $0 in the quarter, versus $773,000 in the year-ago period. Total revenue for 2014 climbed to $5.9 million, from $4.6 million in 2013.Total operating expenses rose to $37.2 million from $15.9 million.Research and development expenses increased to $32.0 million from $12.6 million in the year-ago quarter, while general and administrative expenses rose to $5.2 million from $3.2 million.As of December 31, 2014, the company had $671.9 million in cash, cash equivalents and short term investments.Receptos shares fell 2.07% to $122.40 in after-hours trading.
