Shares of Arrowhead Research Corp (NASDAQ: ARWR) have been increasingly shorted over the past few weeks.

33.72 percent of the float is currently short which is an 8.55 percent increase from the previous two-week reporting period.

Over the past month, the stock has fallen nearly 20 percent and recently traded at $6.20.

On January 9, the stock spiked upwards and traded as high as $9.16 before crashing to the $6 range, where it has stayed since.

With such a significant percentage of the float short, if the stock moves up on as it did in early January, it could create a short squeeze and drive the shares higher as the shorts will eventually have to be covered.

Arrowhead Research Corp recently traded at $6.20 on Monday, down 1.74 percent from Friday’s close.
