DETROIT, Sept. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DTE Energy will host its inaugural five-day DTE Cares Week, a companywide service project, to positively impact the communities DTE serves.

Sept. 8 – 12, more than 600 employees from across the state will volunteer to help non-profit organizations. They will provide at least 5,000 hours of service by working at more than 30 sites in Ann Arbor, Metro Detroit, West Michigan and Huron County.

Volunteers will participate in a variety of activities. During community clean-up projects, they will do everything from removing graffiti and picking up trash to repairing fences and pruning trees. Some employees will pick fruits and vegetables for those in need. Others will prepare lunch at a soup kitchen. Volunteers will have the opportunity to teach children involved with Junior Achievement, and even build homes through Habitat for Humanity.

"DTE Cares Week continues a long tradition of volunteerism by DTE employees," said Faye Alexander Nelson, vice president of Public Affairs for DTE Energy and president of the DTE Energy Foundation.  "During the week, we'll leverage our collective energy to make a greater impact on the families and communities we serve."

Last year, the company launched DTE Cares Day. More than 450 employees participated. This year, the concept is expanded to five days, in an effort to meet employee demand and benefit more non-profits.
