MENIFEE, Calif., Aug. 28, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UPS announced today a $17.5 million expansion of its deliverycenter in Menifee, Calif., to handle increased shipping volume fromcustomers throughout the region. The expansion, which morethan doubles the existing space, will open in late September. In addition to expedited package processing capabilitysupported by advanced technology and conveyor systems, the facilitywill have expanded vehicle parking and an enlarged UPS CustomerCenter.
"We're ready with more capacity to serve customers'eastward growth in Southern California's Inland Empire," said NoelMassie, president of the South California District. "Thegrowth of warehouse and distribution operations, as well asresidential construction in the region, has necessitated the needto expand our facilities and operations."
The expanded facility will increase processing capacity from4,000 pieces to 10,000 pieces per day. The interior space also canbe reconfigured to support increased demand around the peak holidayshopping season. Advanced technology equipment that can scan,measure and weigh packages, and affix labels will accelerateprocessing and increase sorting efficiency.
The expanded space will cover 49,407 square feet and include 10tractor-trailer doors and room for 108 delivery vehicles. Nearly 35delivery routes were transferred from the nearby Riverside and SanBernardino facilities to serve customers more efficiently andposition the region for continued growth.
UPS purchased the building in 2007, along with adjacent land, toserve the southern portion of Riverside County, including Menifee,Murrieta, Perris and Temecula. The new facility increases thenumber of employees to 236, a gain of 19 permanent jobs. Hiring isunderway for new positions and for the upcoming seasonaldemand.
