Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that it has secured a contractfor engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services forBASF's toluene diisocyanate (TDI) Complex project at BASF's site inLudwigshafen, Germany. Fluor booked the undisclosed value into backlog in thefourth quarter of 2012.The single-train, 300,000 metric tons-per-year plant will produce TDI andexpand additional plants as precursors for polyurethanes at the BASF site inLudwigshafen. Production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2014.Fluor has been involved in the project since 2011 performing support servicesfor both the pre-front-end engineering and design (pre-FEED) and the FEED workfor this project. TDI is a key component used for polyurethane foams. To alarge extent, it is used in the automotive industry (e.g., seating cushion andinterior applications) as well as in the furniture segment (e.g., flexiblefoams for mattresses, cushions or wood coating).“Fluor continues to expand its long resume for the design and construction ofnew chemicals plants led from our Haarlem operations center,” said PeterOosterveer, president of Fluor's Energy & Chemicals Group.Fluor's Haarlem, the Netherlands, operations center will lead the project withsupport from Gliwice, Poland. More than 800 Fluor craft workers arecontributing to the construction of the facility expansion.
