FirstEnergy NuclearOperating Company (FENOC) today announced plans to expand used nuclear fuelstorage capacity at its two-unit Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport,Pa. Under the plan, above-ground, airtight steel and concrete canisters will beinstalled that provide cooling to used fuel assemblies through natural aircirculation.  The canisters will be stored on a thick concrete pad locatedwithin Beaver Valley's highly secured, protected area, providing additionalsafety assurance.  The storage system will be monitored closely by trainedpersonnel and the NRC to assure its integrity.
