What’s the difference between the woman who cuts my hair, Bill Gates, and me? For starters, money. But that’s not what I’m getting at.

What I’m getting at is this: while there are many differences between us, all three of us have the same amount of time each week. We all get 168 hours. With those hours we decide how much we sleep, how much TV we watch, how much we spend time on our businesses, etc.

But in talking to people there seems to be a real despair. “Well Bill Gates is really smart,” and, “She’s just a lucky person.”

Really?

In talking to many successful people over the last year, I can assure you that the common thread among them is anything but luck.

Rather, I have discovered that the successful person acts on the drive and information available to create opportunities.

They do it by working for free to get known for their skills. They position themselves to become a professionals in their fields. They identify people who make decisions and take them out for coffee to learn about their success.

It’s very simple - but not necessarily easy- to create opportunities. The famous saying, “Luck favors the persistent,” is famous for a reason.
