Shares in Xstrata PLC (XTA), a diversified mining company, rose 2.3% and Barclays PLC (BARC) (BCS), a global financial services provider engaged in retail banking, credit cards, corporate and investment banking and wealth management , +1.56% gained 1.8%.

Pace PLC (PIC), formerly Pace Micro Technology plc, slumped 38%. shares in low-cost airline EasyJet PLC (EZJ) rose 5.3% after the carrier said it plans to start paying a dividend in 2012.

M.D.C. Holdings Inc.'s (MDC) first-quarter loss narrowed as the homebuilder saw closings and average selling prices rise, though home gross margins tumbled.

JA Solar Co.'s (JASO) first-quarter profit surged 79% as sharply higher shipments lifted the top line, though margins declined. JA Solar Co is trading at a price of $6.10. Currently, the company has a Market capitalization (total value of a company in the stock market) of approximately 1.03B.

SunTrust (STI) downgraded shares of CMS Energy (CMS) from a “buy” rating to a “neutral” rating, Separately, analysts at Zacks Investment Research reiterated a “neutral” rating on shares of CMS Energy in a research note to investors on Friday.
