In what appears to be a first for professional sports, Brooklyn Nets fans can now pay for concessions at the Barclays Center with their smartphones. Through a partnership with
American Express,AXP
fans attending a Brooklyn Nets home game can now pay for their hot dogs and other concessions through Brooklyn eWallet, a new feature which is embedded inside the official Brooklyn Nets app. Users can store up to ten debit or credit cards on the app. To pay for a purchase, the user simply taps the “make a purchase” option inside the eWallet and scan a QR code generated at the cash. "Visitors to Barclays Center are constantly using their smartphones around the venue,"
said Joanna Lambert, American Express' senior vice president of product development and management. "Now with the eWallet, they can easily and quickly buy food and drinks while interacting with digital content served up by American Express and the Nets." Manhattan-based American Express holds close marketing partnerships with the Nets and the NBA.
