Infographic: How Many People Have Dropped Their Smartphones in a Toilet? And Other Interesting Facts

It happened to a good friend of mine. And it could happen to you.
You're at work, minding your own business (or, more appropriately,
doing
your business), when all of a sudden that snazzy touch screen device you're holding slips through your fingers, falls through the air, and crashes into a pool that wasn't made for swimming. Just like that, your cell phone is gone – along with every piece of data you have inside of it. Believe it or not, 19% of smartphone users who have lost or damaged their smartphones have been in this situation. Meanwhile, 15% of smartphone users blame it on their kids. Another 11% claim they left it at a restaurant, while 9% say they lost it in a taxi. This data comes from
Plaxo
, a subsidiary of Comcast (NASDAQ:
CMCSA
) that aims to unify “all your contact info in a single, smart address book,” and
MarketTools
, an online market research firm. (See the infographic below.) On the upside, 49% of smartphone owners have “increased reliance upon tools/apps” that provide them with remote access to contacts and address book details. Google (NASDAQ:
GOOG
) Docs have no doubt helped in this area, as have the many other cloud services that have popped up. Take a look at the infographic for more:
