Apple's (NASDAQ:
AAPL) fifth iteration of the iPhone, the iPhone 5, is expected to ship in September, sources with direct knowledge of the matter said.
Apple's wildly popular phone is typically released with a new version in June, but supply chain issues and a new release schedule have been attributed to the September date.
Three people with direct knowledge of the company's supply chain withheld their names for professional considerations.
The iPhone 5 isn't expected to deviate in design and outward appearance, but upgrades in cameras and "under-the-hood" gear are commonly expected.
Shares of Apple are higher by more than 1.4%, or $4.93, in Wednesday pre-market trade, to $342.79.
