Tesla Motors IncTSLA
started as a manufacturer of electric automobiles. Co-founder Elon Musk started the company knowing that it was risky, but he had a very specific goal in mind. "It was very important for there to be an example of an electric car that was great," Musk
told attendees
at the 2015 Automotive News World Congress. "There were no great electric cars. People thought electric cars were like a golf cart. They were slow, didn't maneuver well, had low range or ugly. They didn't have too much functionality." Tesla has proven that it is possible to produce a great electric automobile, but its journey is far from over. In addition to its car segment, Tesla will soon produce a
powerful battery
for home and industrial use. After that the company may enter another space and
sell its own
supply chain management solution. "Tesla is one of those rare companies who will transform different spaces, like Google," tech industry expert and analyst
Jeff Kagan
told Benzinga. "Google transformed the Web search space. Then they transformed the wireless space on the operating system side with Android. Now they want to [transform] the wireless network side against AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile." Kagan said that

has gotten into many businesses that aren't making money. There are a lot of opportunities, however, so Kagan said that you "have to wonder what Google will look like going forward." "Yesterday it was a search engine, but tomorrow everybody says it's going to rule the world," he said. "It's gonna be in all these different industries and reinvent all these different industries. That's what Tesla is. Tesla is the same kind of company."

'Out Of The Box'

Kagan said that Tesla has the same kind of "forward-thinking, out of the box, brand-new" attitude as Google. "They're coming at what we need from an entirely new perspective," he said. "Other companies come from the industry and they like to innovate. But Tesla and Google, those are companies that like to transform. They want to have a completely brand-new idea, reinventing industry after industry." Kagan said he isn't sure what Tesla will look like in five years. It is obviously a very different company today than it was in 2010. "But I do know they're gonna be in a lot of different businesses," Kagan concluded. "And I think, like Google, there will be a few that are profitable, others that are not. But they'll be rapidly growing in our minds and in the stock market." Disclosure:
