Kelley Blue Book Analyst On 153% Increase In Tesla Model S Registrations In October: 'It Can Be Tough To Evaluate Tesla's Sales Numbers'

When asked about the 153 percent increase In Tesla Motors Inc TSLA Model S registrations in October, Kelley Blue Book Senior Analyst Karl Brauer told Benzinga that it can be tough to evaluate Tesla’s sales numbers, since they aren’t reported in the same “detailed manner” as other automakers.

The registration data is from IHS automotive. It also revealed that Tesla registrations had been down 22 percent from January to October last year.

Brauer said that it’s easy to understand a decline in sales and deliveries of Tesla vehicles this year while the Model D production updates were occurring. But, Brauer cautioned, there still remains a decline in total sales for 2014 versus the same time last year.

“Does it indicate a long-term trend or just a temporary drop in activity?” he said. “It will be a while before we can answer that because of the delayed reporting schedule of Tesla’s sales.”
