What do the Analysts Think About Apple's WWDC Announcements

Apple, Inc. AAPL hosted its annual World Wide Developers Conference on Monday. Despite rumors and expectations, the company did not unveil any new hardware products during the keynote speech and instead focused on the announcement of its new versions of OS X and iOS. Following the conference, analysts have started to release notes with their opinion of the conference and what it could mean for the company. Barclays Analysts at Barclays, commented "We believe the event was not a catalyst from a stock standpoint as no new hardware was announced. Overall, the innovation within both the new Mac OS X Yosemite and iOS 8 was largely incremental and in line with all of our expectations." The team at Barclays went on to explain that the more significant announcement came in the way of a new programming language. The new language- Swift -should allow the developers to get apps to the iOS market faster than the Android market. The analysts feel this could give Apple a "important competitive advantage" over the next few years. Wells Fargo Echoing the sentiment from Barclays, the analysts at Wells Fargo wrote, "Relative to the expectations going into WWDC, the event, to us, was a slight disappointment given the lack of any new hardware announcements and a cursory address of the home automation capabilities." The Wells Fargo analysts felt the most important announcement was the HealthKit/health app. They cited the opt-in feature to allow the apps access to data as being a "critical element" in helping Apple monetize the information. Credit Suisse In a contradicting view, the team at Credit Suisse called the software announcements "significant" and said, "Apple continues to demonstrate how its integration between hardware, software and services across iPhone, iPad and Macs creates a sustainable differentiating advantage versus rival platforms. Additionally, the Credit Suisse team says the announcement of Swift directly appealed to developers and believes that Apple's monetization of its installed based should keep its developers loyal.
