Snowstorm Drives Up Internet Sales
December 21, 2009 4:59 PM
The northeast snowstorm noticeably effected shopping over the weekend as snow piled up from South Carolina to New York. Despite the decline in mall and store sells, retailers were still bombarded by online sells.
Many shoppers opted to shop from their computer in an effort to finish their Christmas list. A variety of companies are still offering free shipping and Christmas delivery. Instead of ignoring the free shipping emails that pour into consumer mailboxes daily, many shoppers took advantage of these deals.
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN)plans to extend its standard shipping until this afternoon, while J.C. Penny (NYSE:JCP) will offer free shipping until Tuesday. As a result, online sells are still high this morning as shoppers continue to take advantage of the shipping options and ability to shop from home or work.
