AMC Using 'Fear The Walking Dead' To Launch Newest Drama 'Preacher'

While many analysts are calling on AMC Networks Inc (NASDAQ: AMCX) to get away from relying on its "Walking Dead" franchise, some are forgetting about the show's value— including its ability to help launch other series.

Just as "The Walking Dead" helped launch "Into The Badlands" in November, spinoff "Fear The Walking Dead" is set to help launch the network's next drama "Preacher" this summer.

AMC announced on Monday, the comic book franchise created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon will debut at 10 p.m. on May 22, following the midseason finale of "Fear The Walking Dead." Starring Dominic Cooper, the series is a supernatural drama with a dark comedic element.

"Preacher" revolves around a West Texas preacher inhabited by a mysterious entity. As a result, he begins to develop a unique skill that brings him and his allies into contact with people from heaven, hell and all points in between. Actor Seth Rogen and producing partner Evan Goldberg are behind the adaptation, which will run for 10 weeks during the summer.

AMC hasn't revealed its full summer roster yet, but the second season of British import "Humans" is expected to return as well, along with new episodes of "Halt & Catch Fire."
