The CW
CBS/NYSE
has always marched to the beat of its own drum which has become even more apparent the last few years. On Friday, in a move very reminiscent of last year, The CW renewed its entire line-up of series. 11 total programs in total were given the greenlight for next year, including all three of its DC Comics based adaptations. Network mainstays "The Vampire Diaries" and "Supernatural" were also included in that list after re-securing contracts with the show's lead actors. Many had wondered if the long-running dramas were on their way out as "Diaries" is down in ratings and "Supernatural" is now over a decade old. Yet both remain favorites of The CW's topper Mark Pedowitz. The CW also renewed "My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" which despite low ratings has been a big player in the awards race. The network has been chasing its elusive first Emmy nomination despite success in other award races. Cancelling "Crazy" before it even got a shot with Emmy voters would have torpedoed any real hopes. The full list of renewed series include "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" (Season 2), "The Flash" (Season 3), "Arrow" (Season 5), "The Vampire Diaries" (Season 8), "Supernatural (Season 12), "The Originals" (Season 4), "iZombie" (Season 3), "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" (Season 2), "Jane the Virgin" (Season 3), "Reign (Season 4) and "The 100" (Season 4). Analysts don't expect the full slate to impact the network's pilot process as many of the renewed series only run for half-seasons giving The CW some schedule flexibility. The CW will reveal its fall schedule and new series pickups this May.
