Gas Prices Skyrocket Overnight, National Average Could Reach $1.90/Gal Friday

Warmer weather is heating up the gasoline prices, which have surged overnight and could breach the $1.90 a gallon mark Friday.

The national average currently stands at $1.886 per gallon. The national average price shot up over 6 cents per gallon in one day and the average daily move is typically closer to 0.9 cents per gallon, according to GasBuddy.

"A one-day move of over 6 times the average is newsworthy, but that the price move is adding to the cost of a gallon of gasoline makes the news cringe-worthy for motorists," GasBuddy reported.

According to the report, Indiana saw a one-day increase of 16 cents a gallon, while Michigan saw its average retail price climb 10 cents per gallon Thursday. Great Lake states are used to volatile prices, but a one-day wholesale gasoline price jump of 20 cents in Houston, Texas, shows that not even Texas is immune to the wave of rising gas prices.

GasBuddy expects the gasoline prices to rise further, as the nation move deeper into summer-blend gasoline season. Currently, the city gasoline blend is nearly 12 cents more expensive than a gallon of the rural blend.
