Reports of a new swine flu strain found in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Maine, and Indiana, caused renewed interest in several swine flu related stocks. Health officials are hoping this strain is not as serious as H1N1, which killed more than 17,000 in a major outbreak between 2009 and mid-2010.

BioCryst shares traded Thursday in a range of $2.43 to $2.95 and closed at $2.92.

MGT Capital Investments

Shares of MGT Capital Investments (NYSE: MGT), the London-based medical technology company, rose 46% Thursday on 17 times the average daily volume.

MGT Capital Investments announced Thursday that Robert Ladd has been named President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 9, 2012. Mr. Ladd had previously served as interim President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company.

MGT shares traded Thursday in a range of $0.04 to $0.06, closing at the high of the day.

Furniture Brands International

Shares of Furniture Brands International (NYSE: FBN), the St Louis, MO furniture manufacturer and retailer, rose 38% Thursday on 4 times the average daily volume.

Furniture Brands International was the top performer on the NYSE Thursday. There was no news to account for the move.

Furniture Brands shares traded Thursday in a range of $1.15 to $1.57, closing at $1.56.
