Jobs Resignation Gag Spreads On April Fools, But Is There More To The Story? (AAPL)

On April Fools, we expect to hear a lot of crazy stories. Macworld, for one, has reported that
Steve Jobs has resigned
from Apple
AAPL
. The story, dated April 1, 2011, was clearly a gag. Macworld has since updated the piece admitting that fact. Regardless, there are many sites – including Cult of Mac – reporting that there are, in fact, some signs pointing to
Jobs' resignation
. Cult of Mac even says that a local TV station has been looking into the rumor (but fails to actually name the TV station in question). The news has been spreading all over Twitter, likely fueled by Macworld's official gag. But aside from Jobs' health, which may keep him from running the company from time to time, it is highly unlikely that he would ever resign. He loves Apple, he loves touch screens, and most of all I'm betting he loves the fact that, after years of watching Microsoft
MSFT
Windows take the lead, he can finally beat Bill Gates at his own game. If that's not a reason to stay on board as CEO, then what is?
