Ford Motors Company
F
is expected to publish its Q1 earnings report before the markets open on Tuesday, April 26. Analysts are predicting earnings per share to be $0.50, slightly up from the $0.46 level a year ago. In the last week, analysts have upgraded their Q1 earnings per share estimates by $0.01. Ford Motor Company is a Detroit-based producer of cars and trucks. Ford and its subsidiaries also engage in other businesses, including financing vehicles. It operates under two segments: Automotive and Financial Services. The Automotive segment includes the operations of Ford North America, Ford South America, Ford Europe, Ford Asia Pacific Africa and Volvo. The Financial services include the operations of Ford Motor Credit Company and Other Financial Services. Ford's former UK subsidiaries, Jaguar and Land Rover, were sold to Tata Motors of India in March 2008. In August 2010, the company completed the sale of its Swedish Volvo car unit and related assets to China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. In March 2011, the company announced the sale of the Norfolk Assembly Plant property to Atlanta-based Jacoby Development, Inc. The company currently employs around 164,000 people. More and more analysts are putting a “buy” rating on Ford's shares. The car-making giant is expected to profit from an increase in global demand for cars and supply problems of its Japanese competitors, which were caused by the recent earthquake and tsunami. Ford has also recently announced an ambitious campaign to bring 15 new vehicles to China by 2015, a part of its effort to tap into fast growing Chinese market. Revenues for the first quarter are predicted to be $30.64 billion, up 9% on a yearly basis. For the year as a whole, revenues will rise at a slower pace of 4%. Ford's shares added 5% last week. If Ford is to maintain this momentum, it will most likely need to produce good results on Tuesday.
