In October 2022, Tesla, Inc TSLA stopped including ultrasonic sensors (USS) on its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. This was followed by the USS discontinued on Model S and Model X in early 2023.

As promised by Tesla, a new software update is now being rolled out to customers to replace the functionality previously provided by the ultrasonic sensors.

Tesla's software version 2023.6.9 is going out now and offers park assist capabilities for vehicles without ultrasonic sensors. The update uses the occupancy network to predict high-definition outlines of objects surrounding the vehicle, providing audio-visual alerts.

Customers have started to react positively to the new update. One Tesla owner shared their experience on social media, stating, "This is after being parked for a while, interesting to see how park assist takes a bit to load previous data from before it was parked. Still really impressive work from the Tesla team."

Although not all customers were impressed, with one claiming the new measurements were "nowhere close" to the USS-equipped vehicles.
