Northrop Grumman to Supply E-2D Advanced Hawkeye to U.S. Navy - Analyst Blog

Aerospace and defense company Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) received a multi-year contract worth $3.6 billion from the U.S. Navy to supply 25 new E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft. The Hawkeye aircraft is an airborne, all weather, early warning system used by the U.S. Navy.

E-2D Advanced Hawkeye

E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is an upgraded version of the previous Hawkeye model. The technology and gadgets fitted in this aircraft allow it to see more targets at greater distances. E-2D Advanced Hawkeye's structurally distinctive design – a rotating rotodome and four vertical stabilizer tail configuration – helps provide 360-degree surveillance.

The complexities of modern warfare have made the Hawkeye aircraft indispensable. These are sent on different missions, including surveillance, tracking of missiles and hostile aircraft among others.

Northrop's Hawkeye Team

Northrop Grumman through its “Team Hawkeye” has been delivering these aircraft on time and within budget since 2007. Northrop is also supported by other industry leaders on this program.

Lockheed Martin Corporation's (NYSE: LMT) unit, Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems, supplies the principal AN/APY-9 radar system while L-3 Communications Holdings Inc.'s (NYSE: LLL) unit, L-3 Communications Randtron Antenna Systems, supplies the ultra-high frequency electronically scanned array antenna for the Hawkeye. Raytheon Company's (NYSE: RTN) Space and Airborne Systems provides the T-56-A engines. Besides these heavyweight industry majors, there are others too helping Northrop to churn out the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.

Zacks Rank

Northrop Grumman carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
