The Company along with its partners currently operates in three primary business segments: Fee Timber, Timberland Management & Consulting, and Real Estate. The activities in Timberland Management & Consulting segment are centered on raising and investing capital from third parties for private equity timber funds, and thereafter managing those funds. As of December 31, 2013 manages 91,000 acres of timberland properties in Washington, Oregon, and California. The Real Estate segment's operations are focused on a portfolio of approximately 2,900 acres in the west Puget Sound region of Washington. This segment's activities consist of efforts to enhance the value of land by obtaining the entitlements and, in some cases, building the infrastructure necessary to enable further development. Its development & commercial properties includes; Gig Harbor, Port Gamble, Kingston, Bremerton, Hansville, Port Ludlow, Rural Residential and Poulsbo. The Company faces competition from variety of non-wood and engineered wood products as well as competition from foreign-produced logs and lumber; and also with local and regional peers that offer land for sale or property for lease. The timberland and real estate assets owned and managed by the Partnership are subject to federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, including extensive permitting or notification processes.
