Investment management firm&nbsp;Calamos&nbsp;was gearing up to launch the world&#8217;s first 100% downside-protected Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) exchange-traded fund, according to a Monday&nbsp;press release.
What Happened: The ETF will employ a mix&nbsp;of Treasury securities and options on&nbsp;the CBOE Bitcoin U.S. ETF Index, an investment avenue that tracks the price returns from U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, Calamos said.
The ETF will reset annually, providing investors with a new upside cap to protect against negative Bitcoin returns&nbsp;for the next 12 months. This effectively means that investors will have to give up some potential gains in return for protection during market downturns.
The ETF is expected to be listed on CBOE on&nbsp;Jan. 22 under the ticker CBOJ. CBOJ units can be held indefinitely.

What Happened: With many cryptocurrencies hitting new all-time highs after Donald Trump's 2024 election win, members of Congress like Representative Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.) are adding <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/gov-trades/members/guy-reschenthaler">crypto to their portfolio.</a>

Recent weakness in the tech ecosystem took down several names and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/price-target/25/01/42958251/on-semi-sees-utilization-cuts-as-ev-demand-softens-analyst-warns">ON stock was no exception</a>. In the business week ending Jan. 10, the equity slipped 16.22%.
Adding to skepticism beyond the overall crimson tide in the innovation arena are concerns or headwinds specific to ON stock. In December, a major insider at the company <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/insights/news/24/12/42592940/group-president-at-on-semiconductor-sells-1-92m-of-stock">disclosed the sale of 28,000 shares</a> for a total transaction value of nearly $1.92 million. Generally speaking, market makers deploy stochastic pricing models to estimate high-low price ranges for risk management purposes. Theoretically, the total premium of an at-the-money <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/how-does-an-options-straddle-work">straddle</a> (buying a put and call at the same strike price) should feature low enough probabilistic risk to entice speculation, but high enough positional risk that the risk underwriting is reliably and consistently profitable over the long run.
Without getting into the mathematical weeds, stochastic models are the equivalent of a baseball player's batting average over an entire season. Such stats provide general intelligence. However, so-called clutch players often see their batting average rise in leveraged situations, such as runners in scoring position. Similarly, an investor can calculate probabilities based on the materialization of aberrant events.
Certainly, what happened last week was aberrant. In the past five years, there have only been 12 weeks (not including last week) where ON stock lost 10% or more. Of this tally, by the end of the fourth subsequent week, ON stood in positive territory 10 times or a bullish success ratio of 83.33%. During these positive responses, the median return clocks in at 23.71%.

However, the twist is that by the end of the third week following a 10% weekly loss or worse, the bullish success ratio is down slightly to 75%. What's more, on the off chance that ON stock loses value, the median loss sits at a whopping 22.12%.
For whatever reason, the bulls tend not to buy the discount in ON stock in full force until after the conclusion of the third week following a major downturn.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Nuanced Trades to Consider</h2>
Given the above framework, there are two ways to tackle ON stock. The first is the most aggressive approach, which is to trade shares this week and the next, with the view of avoiding the third week. By the end of the second week following the 16.22% loss (which corresponds with the options chain expiring Jan. 24), ON could potentially rise by a median rate of 15.91%.
Assuming statistical trends play out predictably, ON stock may reach a peak price of $62.52. Depending on individual risk profile, one could potentially buy a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/bull-spread">bull call spread</a> with the short (second) leg corresponding with the $62 price target. Using a stochastic method, market makers are mostly underwriting the risk that ON may peak at around $57.
This is why the call spreads with $62 short strikes feature gargantuan payouts — market makers simply aren't expecting this move.
For the more conservative trader, it may be prudent to wait until after the third week has passed. Waiting doesn't guarantee anything but it provides more breadth for lingering anxieties to be filtered out of the system.
The end of the fourth week aligns with the options chain expiring Feb. 7. By then, ON stock may reach $58.70 (using stochastic modeling), up to a peak value of $66.73 (using dynamic modeling). Even if traders opted to meet roughly in the middle with a short strike price of $62, the payouts are still generous, again, because the market makers are not expecting such a robust move.

(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NUE#NYSE">NUE</a>) to make a potential bid to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/m-a/25/01/42947291/the-offer-would-be-in-the-high-30sshare-cleveland-cliffs-would-purchase-all-of-u-s-steel-for-all-cas">acquire the company</a>.

Vice President-elect JD Vance <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/jd-vance-trump-process-rectify-unfair-jan-6-prosecutions">told</a> Fox News Sunday that those who protested peacefully on Jan. 6, 2021, should be pardoned, but, "If you committed violence on that day, obviously <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/21/01/19049660/washington-dc-descends-into-anarchy-as-trump-supporters-storm-us-capitol-delay-electoral-college-vot">you shouldn't be pardoned</a>." 
Vance&#8217;s comments come in sharp contrast to President-elect Donald Trump&#8216;s and have some people confused and angry.
Trump has repeatedly promised to free the more than 460 jailed Jan. 6 participants on his first day in office. Last week during a <a href="http://although he didn't answer a question about whether that would include those who attacked police.">press conference</a> at his Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump vowed that he'd be "making major pardons," although he didn't reply when asked if that would include those who attacked police. On Jan. 6, 2021, 140 police officers were injured and five were killed.
Vance did say "there's a little bit of a gray area there" regarding those who committed violent acts. "We're very much committed to seeing the equal administration of law."

An X account representing Jake Lang, who is awaiting trial on charges that he beat police officers at the Capitol, addressed Vance, <a href="https://x.com/JakeLangJ6/status/1878528288043549148">saying</a> the "J6 Hostages families have been CRUSHED by the mixed messaging coming from the White House" on the pardon process.
"We have been waiting 4 years for this moment, &amp; now it seems like your Administration is going to possibly leave some of our brothers behind; to rot away in the gulag for the next 10 to 20 years."
Others piled on with angry tweets directed at Vance. "Let's make this really easy for @JD Vance The government entrapped J6 protesters with dereliction of preparedness, misconduct by police, &amp; undercover agitators. All hostages currently in prison were the victims &amp; must be pardoned."
The hue and cry became loud enough to compel Vance to <a href="https://x.com/JDVance/status/1878461134589575408">respond on X,</a> saying that he donated to the J6 political prisoner fund when he was running for Senate in Ohio and that he's been "defending these guys for years." He said Trump will look at each case, adding that his own comments were not "some walkback."

What To Know: Under the agreement, Decoy Therapeutics will merge with a wholly owned subsidiary of Salarius Pharmaceuticals to form a new entity called Decoy Therapeutics. Following the merger and a shareholder vote to convert preferred shares into common stock, Decoy investors are expected to hold approximately 86% of the combined company, with Salarius shareholders retaining about 14%.
Decoy's platform centers on developing peptide conjugate therapeutics aimed at treating respiratory viruses and cancer. The combined company plans to fast-track clinical development by leveraging Decoy's innovative pipeline and approximately $7 million in non-dilutive funding from sources like the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation and other partners.
Additionally, Salarius' cancer drug candidates, including SP-3164 and seclidemstat, will be integrated into the development plans, with ongoing support for a Phase 1/2 clinical trial for seclidemstat at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
The merger is expected to enable progress in several areas over the next 12 months. Decoy plans to file an Investigational New Drug application with the FDA for its lead pan-coronavirus antiviral and advance programs targeting flu, COVID-19 and gastrointestinal cancers. Salarius also expects updates from its MD Anderson clinical trial involving patients with myelodysplastic syndrome and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia.
