<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Medical Marijuana's Overlooked Importance</h3>
When asked why medical marijuana isn't receiving the same level of attention as adult-use legalization, Johnson pointed to a common misconception that the recreational market serves the exact needs. &#8220;Its diminished focus in policy discussions, compared to adult-use legalization, may stem from the misconception that adult-use markets meet the needs of all patients, which is far from true,&#8221; she explained. Medical marijuana patients often rely on specific products and dosages that are not always available or prioritized in the adult-use market, leaving a critical gap in access.
Johnson also emphasized the difference in perception between medical and recreational cannabis users. &#8220;Policymakers might feel more comfortable with medical cannabis patients due to their perceived knowledge and responsible use,&#8221; she noted. 
However, she highlighted a significant issue: &#8220;There seems to be an implicit bias, where recreational consumers are viewed as reckless or irresponsible, while medical users are seen as responsible. This stereotype is not only unfair but often inaccurate.&#8221;

Looking ahead, Johnson believes that medical marijuana will continue to play a crucial role in cannabis regulation, both in the U.S. and internationally. However, she urges policymakers to recognize the importance of maintaining a strong medical cannabis framework rather than assuming the adult-use market can fulfill the needs of all consumers. What Happened: At the 2024 Meta Connect, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/09/41046013/metas-ai-breakthroughs-dominate-connect-event-as-analyst-highlights-affordable-mixe">highlighted a cheaper </a>Quest virtual reality headset, new artificial intelligence features and the Orion smart glasses.
"A lot of the stuff we've been talking about for a longer time, glasses, mixed reality, AI, it's happening. And we can start to see how the future of computing and the future of human connection are going to look, and it's pretty awesome," Zuckerberg said.
When talking about the Orion glasses, Zuckerberg said the company is now "getting closer to achieving the dream of Reality Labs."
Reality Labs is the segment of Meta Platforms that covers its bets on the metaverse, virtual reality and augmented reality.
The segment is part of Meta's heavy bets on these ideas to show growth in the coming years, so much so that the company formerly known as Facebook for many years <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/21/10/23719739/facebook-rebrands-as-meta-what-investors-should-know-about-new-name-ticker-and-vision">changed its name</a> to Meta Platforms on Oct. 29, 2021.
"Connection is evolving and so are we," the company said at the time. "The metaverse is the next evolution of social connection. Our company's vision is to help bring the metaverse to life, so we are changing our name to reflect our commitment to this future."
Zuckerberg announced the name change at the Facebook Connect event in 2021.
"To reflect who we are and what we hope to build, I am proud to announce that starting today, our company is now Meta," Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg said from that moment on the company would be "metaverse-first, not Facebook-first."
The company changed its name to Meta Platforms and eventually changed its stock ticker from FB to MVRS. In 2022, the company announced it would change its ticker from MVRS to the current META.
Meta Platforms underwent several rounds of layoffs over the last couple of years, which have led to questions from shareholders and employees about whether the company invested too aggressively in the metaverse for growth.
The company's Meta Connect event and recent earnings reports suggest further growth could stem from its ongoing investments in the metaverse.

On Oct. 1, BMO Capital reiterated a Market Perform rating on Peloton Interactive and maintained a $6.50 price target.
AMN Healthcare Services, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMN#NYSE">AMN</a>) is not doing that well, Cramer said.
On Oct. 1, AMN Healthcare Services said Jeffrey Knudson will step down from his role as Chief Financial Officer, effective Nov. 8.
The &#8220;Mad Money&#8221; host recommended to hold on to SiTime Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SITM#NASDAQ">SITM</a>), adding that it's a &#8220;good story.&#8221;
On Aug. 7, SiTime reported quarterly earnings of 12 cents per share, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of 4 cents per share. 
The company reported quarterly sales of $43.866 million which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $41 million. Barclays analyst Tom O&#8217;Malley downgraded SiTime from Equal-Weight to Underweight and maintained the price target of $90 on Aug. 27.
