<p>Renewable geothermal energy technology company&nbsp;<strong>Ormat Technologies Inc&nbsp;</strong>(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ora#NYSE">ORA</a>) has entered into a&nbsp;<a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/23/10/g35370047/ormat-to-acquire-contracted-operating-geothermal-and-solar-assets-in-nevada-utah-and-connecticut-f" style="color:#4a6ee0; background:transparent; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt" target="_blank">purchase agreement</a>&nbsp;with&nbsp;<strong>Enel Green Power North America</strong>&nbsp;(EGPNA), a subsidiary of&nbsp;<strong>Enel SpA</strong>, to acquire a 150 MW portfolio for $271 million.</p>
<p>The portfolio includes two contracted operating geothermal power plants and one triple hybrid geothermal, solar PV (20MW nameplate) and solar thermal power plant.</p>
<p>The total generation capacity of the above assets is about 43 MW, two Solar assets with a total nameplate capacity of 40 MW, and two greenfield development assets.</p>
<p>The deal is expected to support Ormat&rsquo;s strategic portfolio expansion goals.</p>
<p>These acquired assets have collectively generated an annual revenue of approximately $35.0 million and an EBITDA of about $24.0 million for the years 2020-2022.</p>
<p>The acquisition is expected to close by the first quarter of 2024.</p>
<p>&ldquo;We are confident that this accretive acquisition, which carries approximately an 8x EV/EBITDA multiple (inclusive of the future planned enhancement and optimization but excluding the Cove Fort expansion), will support both our short and long-term growth plans, further leveraging our unique core capabilities to maximize the efficiency and output from these power plants&rsquo; energy sources, strengthening our financial position, and delivering meaningful value to our investors,&rdquo; said CEO Doron Blachar.</p>
<p>ORA&nbsp;<a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/23/08/g33531732/ormat-technologies-reports-second-quarter-2023-financial-results" style="color:#4a6ee0; background:transparent; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt" target="_blank">held $275.1 million in cash and equivalents</a>&nbsp;as of June 30, 2023.</p>
<p><strong>Price Action</strong>: ORA shares are trading lower by 0.07% at $66.42 on the last check Monday.</p>

So, that&rsquo;s one key reason why <a href="https://investorplace.com/industries/energy/renewable-energy/">renewable energy stocks</a> have picked up interest &ndash; it&rsquo;s good for all of us.</p>



<p>Another factor that bolsters the bullish case for the green sector is geopolitics. We&rsquo;ve seen firsthand that dependency on foreign sources of energy can leave us compromised and vulnerable. By their very nature, however, renewable energy can be sourced anywhere. That helps the planet and may even mitigate geopolitical blackmail.</p>



<p>And while there will likely always be room for hydrocarbons, more jurisdictions are pushing for green and sustainable solutions. With that, below are three renewable energy stocks to consider.</p>



<h2>Ormat Technologies (ORA)</h2>

It&rsquo;s basically what it sounds like &mdash; <a href="https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/geothermal/">heat from within the earth</a> that&rsquo;s converted for practical deployment. Further, because the heat is continuously being produced inside the earth&rsquo;s core, it&rsquo;s legitimately a sustainable source of energy.</p>



<p>At the moment, geothermal <a href="https://css.umich.edu/publications/factsheets/energy/geothermal-energy-factsheet">only accounts for about 0.4% of electricity generation</a> in the U.S. That doesn&rsquo;t seem like a lot because it isn&rsquo;t. However, as political pressures build to develop renewable energy infrastructures, Ormat would be well positioned for growth. Further, the geopolitical realm is only getting more tense with flashpoints erupting in multiple areas. Thus, it&rsquo;s never been more important to diversify our energy supply chain.</p>



<p>Looking ahead, analysts anticipate that current-year revenue <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/ora/analysis">will land at $888.2 million</a>, up 7.1% from last year. Further, in 2025, experts estimate that sales will reach just under $975 million. Overall, Wall Street experts rate ORA a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/ora/forecast">consensus moderate buy</a> with a $75.63 price target, implying 16% upside potential.</p>



<h2>NextEra Energy (NEE)</h2>

According to its website, NextEra operates under the directive to lead the decarbonization of America. It&rsquo;s already done much to achieve this lofty goal, with $85 billion to $95 billion in planned investments in U.S.-based infrastructure through 2025. As well, it seeks a 99% reduction in dependency on foreign oil.</p>



<p>To be sure, though, NEE has had a rough outing due to high inflation and high interest rates crimping the renewable energy industry. Since the start of the year, NEE stock lost more than 10% of equity value. Over the trailing year, it&rsquo;s down 21%. Not helping matters is that analysts anticipate sales of only $27.76 billion in 2024, down 1.3% from last year.</p>



<p>Still, the high-side estimate calls for $30.73 billion in revenue. In addition, the experts believe that NEE <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/nee/forecast">could hit $68.89 per share</a>, translating to about 25% upside. Therefore, speculators should keep NextEra on their radar.</p>



<h2>Brookfield Renewable (BEP)</h2>

Along with 100 wind farms and over 550 storage facilities, Brookfield owns over 200 hydroelectric plants. According to the Department of Energy, hydropower represents one of the <a href="https://www.energy.gov/eere/water/hydropower-basics#:~:text=Hydropower%2C%20or%20hydroelectric%20power%2C%20is,of%20total%20U.S.%20electricity%20generation.">oldest and largest sources of renewable energy</a>, which leverages the natural flow of moving water to generate electricity.</p>



<p>Right now, hydroelectric facilities account for 28.7% of total U.S. renewable electricity generation. This translates to 6.2% of total U.S. electricity generation, thus demonstrating Brookfield&rsquo;s relevance. Still, BEP stock has had trouble in the market, losing nearly 14% since the January opener. In the past 52 weeks, it also lost 14%, reflecting the volatile nature of the green space.</p>



<p>Also, analysts see current-year revenue <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/bep/analysis">landing at $5 billion</a>, down about 1% from last year. However, they anticipate a recovery to occur in 2025, with sales projected to reach $5.7 billion by then.</p>



<p>Still, analysts also believe that <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/bep/forecast">shares will reach $29.14</a> over the next 12 months. So, growth could potentially come early for BEP.</p>

After all, the concept of green solutions sometimes conjures up images of tree-hugging activists disrupting various commercial activities. Some investors may not want to support such hooliganism.</p>



<p>At the same time, society is changing. In particular, more people &ndash; especially the younger generations &ndash; care about eco-friendly strategies than prior generations. One study pointed out that three out of four Generation Z consumers prioritize sustainability than brand names when shopping.</p>



<p>In other words, you might not care about going green and that&rsquo;s entirely your prerogative. However, the changing world does care &ndash; and you could be profitable by supporting the trend. With that, below are <a href="https://investorplace.com/industries/energy/renewable-energy/">renewable energy stocks</a> to consider.</p>



<h2>Ormat (ORA)</h2>

It features operations in the U.S., Indonesia, Kenya, Turkey, Chile, Guatemala, Guadeloupe, New Zealand, Honduras and other international regions. Further, the company operates in three segments: Electricity, Product and Energy Storage. Since the start of the year, it&rsquo;s down almost 14%.</p>



<p>Over the past 52 weeks, ORA stock also slipped nearly 19%. That doesn&rsquo;t seem particular reasonable given Ormat&rsquo;s solid financial performance. Its worst showing least year &ndash; in terms of earnings per share &ndash; was the fourth quarter. Back then, it posted EPS of 59 cents, matching the expected target. Overall, the average positive earnings surprise came out to 22.58%.</p>



<p>For the current fiscal year, experts see EPS reaching $2.13 on sales of $888.2 million. That compares quite favorably to last year&rsquo;s metrics of $2.08 and $829.42 million, respectively.</p>



<p>Analysts rate ORA a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/ora/forecast">consensus moderate buy</a> with a $75.63 average price target. That implies about 15% growth potential, making it an interesting idea for renewable energy stocks.</p>



<h2>Brookfield Renewable (BEPC)</h2>

It operates hydroelectric, wind, solar, and distributed energy and sustainable solutions with an installed capacity of approximately 19,161 megawatts. It&rsquo;s a new enterprise, being incorporated in 2019.</p>



<p>Since the start of the year, BEPC stock incurred a loss of more than 17%. In the past 52 weeks, it&rsquo;s down almost 25%. Likely, the volatility stems from a credibility challenge. Between Q1 and Q3 last year, Brookfield posted red ink on the bottom line. The average negative surprise was 54.3%. However, in Q4, the company posted EPS of a penny, beating the expected loss of 14 cents.</p>



<p>For 2024, experts believe Brookfield will incur a loss of 48 cents. That&rsquo;s more than the loss of 32 cents from last year. However, revenue could jump to $6.14 billion, up nearly 22% from 2023&rsquo;s print of $5.04 billion.</p>



<p>Covering analysts remain optimistic, pegging shares a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/bepc/forecast">moderate buy</a> with a $32.50 price target. Thus, it&rsquo;s an enticing idea for renewable energy stocks.</p>



<h2>Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE)</h2>

It supplies renewable natural gas (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/rng-stock-quote/"><strong>RNG</strong></a>), compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/lng-stock-quote/"><strong>LNG</strong></a>) for medium and heavy-duty vehicles.</p>



<p>Since the start of the year, CLNE dropped nearly 31% of equity value. Over the past 52 weeks, it incurred a loss of over 38%. Clearly, this is not one of the renewable energy stocks for the faint of heart. That said, the market might be a bit too harsh on Clean Energy. For example, its earnings performances last year were decent save for a miss in Q1.</p>



<p>For the current fiscal year, experts believe the company will incur a loss per share of 13 cents. That&rsquo;s worse than last year&rsquo;s print of a loss of 6 cents. However, they also forecast sales of $441.43 million, up 3.8% from last year&rsquo;s print of $425.16 million. Also, the high-side target calls for $512.4 million.</p>



<p>Analysts rate CLNE a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/clne/stock-charts">consensus strong buy</a> with an $8.25 target. That implies almost 214% upside potential.</p>

Per its <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/NEE/profile">public profile</a>, the company generates electricity through wind, solar, nuclear, natural gas and other clean energy. Since the start of the year, NEE stock gained more than 4%.</p>



<p>To be upfront, NEE has been a volatile idea. In the past 52 weeks, shares slipped more than 18%. However, after hitting a near-term bottom in October last year, NEE has been attempting a comeback. Financially, what&rsquo;s appealing here is the consistency of performance. In fiscal 2023, the company achieved an average positive earnings surprise of 9.5%.</p>



<p>For the current fiscal year, experts are seeking earnings per share of $3.40. That&rsquo;s up solidly from last year&rsquo;s result of $3.17. However, the revenue target is a bit tricky, with an average view of $27.76 billion below 2023&rsquo;s print of $28.11 billion. Still, the high-side target calls for $30.73 billion. It operates through multiple segments, with its mainline uranium unit involved in the exploration for, mining, milling, purchase and sale of uranium concentrate. It also features a fuel unit that engages in the refining and fabrication of the commodity.</p>



<p>While nuclear energy sometimes has a rough reputation, the rising energy demands of new technologies such as artificial intelligence means that we can&rsquo;t ignore uranium. Nothing truly features the extraordinary energy density of nuclear fuel. Further, the disruption in the uranium space has made CCJ attractive as long-term speculation.</p>



<p>For the current fiscal year, experts are looking for EPS of 89 cents. That&rsquo;s a big improvement over last year&rsquo;s print of 57 cents. On the top line, revenue could clock in at $2.22 billion, up a robust 18% from 2023&rsquo;s tally of $1.88 billion. It&rsquo;s an unignorable component of alternative energy stocks to buy.</p>

That&rsquo;s where <strong>Ormat Technologies</strong> (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/ora-stock-quote/"><strong>ORA</strong></a>) comes into the picture.</p>



<p>As a specialist in geothermal energy, it could potentially address the intermittency problem. <a href="https://www.energy.gov/eere/geothermal/geothermal-basics">Geothermal is exactly what it sounds like</a> &mdash; extracting energy from the earth&rsquo;s core. It&rsquo;s sustainable, renewable and doesn&rsquo;t involve building ugly wind turbines that could impact wildlife. Notably, the company is a strong financial performer. Last fiscal year, it posted an average positive earnings surprise of 22.58%.</p>



<p>For fiscal 2024, covering experts believe EPS could reach $2.13. That&rsquo;s a modest improvement over last year&rsquo;s result of $2.08. On the other hand, the top line may rise to $888.2 million, up 7.1% from 2023&rsquo;s tally of $829.42 million.</p>



<p>Interestingly, the following year&rsquo;s most optimistic sales target calls for $1.04 billion. Thus, some patience could go a long way.</p>



<h2>First Solar (FSLR)</h2>

<p>To be sure, FSLR stock presents a high-risk, high-reward profile. Last year, shares stumbled noticeably as the pressures associated with elevated inflation and borrowing costs impeded sentiment. However, if broader conditions cooperate moving forward, FSLR could swing dramatically higher. For example, in the past three quarters, the company achieved an average positive earnings surprise of 30.27%.</p>



<p>Interestingly, analysts are anticipating a strong year for First Solar in fiscal 2024. Specifically, they&rsquo;re looking for EPS of $13.59 on sales of $4.5 billion. That&rsquo;s a major jump from last year&rsquo;s results of $7.74 EPS on revenue of $3.32 billion. What&rsquo;s more, fiscal 2025 revenue is projected to hit $5.6 billion.</p>



<p>It&rsquo;s still risky but it could be a compelling wager for alternative energy stocks.</p>



<h2>Clearway Energy (CWEN)</h2>

It also features approximately 2,500 net MW of natural gas-fired generation facilities.</p>



<p>To be completely upfront, Clearway is wildly risky. Since the start of the year, CWEN slipped more than 16%. Over the past 52 weeks, the security gave up nearly 27% of equity value. Therefore, you must understand the risks before getting involved. With that said, analysts rate CWEN a consensus moderate buy with a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/cwen/forecast">$28.50 average price target</a>. That implies an upside of 25% from Friday&rsquo;s close.</p>



<p>Another factor to consider is the slow revenue growth. In 2023, the company generated sales of $1.31 billion, up 10% from last year&rsquo;s print of $1.19 billion. However, in 2021, company revenue was nearly $1.29 billion.</p>



<p>Still, the most optimistic analyst believes that CWEN has the potential to hit $37 per share. We&rsquo;re talking over 62% upside potential.</p>



<h2>Brookfield Renewable (BEPC)</h2>

<p>Another risky enterprise among alternative energy stocks, BEPC stock lost 23% of equity value since the start of the year. Over the past 52 weeks, it slipped almost 33%. However, speculators are hoping that the $22 technical support line may hold. One factor that could bolster sentiment is the company&rsquo;s fourth-quarter earnings report, where it posted EPS of 1 cent against an expected loss per share of 14 cents.</p>



<p>For the current fiscal year, analysts are looking for revenue of $6.13 billion. That&rsquo;s up 21.6% from last year&rsquo;s tally of $5.04 billion. Moreover, they&rsquo;re seeking sales of $6.4 billion in the following year. Lastly, shares feature a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/bepc/forecast">moderate buy consensus view</a> with a $31.50 average price target.</p>



<h2>Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE)</h2>

Specifically, it supplies renewable natural gas (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/rng-stock-quote/"><strong>RNG</strong></a>), compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/lng-stock-quote/"><strong>LNG</strong></a>) for medium and heavy-duty vehicles.</p>



<p>To be sure, CLNE ranks as the highest-risk, highest-reward prospect on this list of alternative energy stocks. Since the beginning of the year, CLNE suffered a loss of almost 42%. In the past 52 weeks, it&rsquo;s down 48%. Of course, the idea here is that at some point, the negative acceleration will fade. It&rsquo;s just that I&rsquo;m not entirely sure when such a dynamic will materialize, if at all.</p>



<p>For the current fiscal year, experts anticipate Clean Energy to post a loss per share of 12 cents. That&rsquo;s disappointing relative to the prior year&rsquo;s result of a 6-cent loss. At the same time, revenue could land at $439.66 million, up 3.4% from 2023. Also, the most optimistic target calls for revenue of $504.9 million.</p>



<p>Finally, analysts rate shares a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/clne/forecast">consensus strong buy</a> with a $7 price target, projecting over 215% upside potential.</p>
